Installation Prerequisites
An updated version of the Windows Installer must exist for the Windows Embedded Standard installation to succeed.
Windows Installer 3.1 can be installed on Windows XP SP2 or Windows Server 2003 systems. Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 already contain an updated version of the Windows Installer. Windows Installer 3.1 can be installed from the Windows Embedded Standard installation DVD by clicking the Prepare link in the Windows Embedded Standard splash screen.
Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005 (SP1 or newer), SQL Server 2005 (SP1 or newer), SQL Server Express 2008, or SQL Server 2008 must be present to install or migrate to a Windows Embedded Standard component database.
Note:
The installation DVD includes the integrated version of SQL Server 2005 Express, which is the installable database platform for the Windows Embedded Standard suite of tools. This version will run/install on both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms.
